A delegation from the Ghana Internet Service Providers Association (GISPA) has paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, at the NCA Tower in Accra.
The visit was to officially congratulate Rev.Ing. Fianko on his appointment and to reaffirm GISPA’s commitment to supporting the NCA’s mandate for the growth and development of Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

During the visit, the GISPA team highlighted their ongoing collaboration with the NCA on several key initiatives, emphasising the vital role Internet Service Providers (ISPs) continue to play in Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
The discussion focused on the critical role of local internet exchanges and data centers in enhancing domestic infrastructure, especially in response to the internet disruptions experienced in March last year, as well as concerns surrounding the high import duties on telecommunications equipment.

“The events of March 2023 clearly showed the need for resilient, locally-driven digital infrastructure. Enhancing local traffic exchange through the Ghana Internet Exchange (GIX) is of national importance,” the team noted. They further proposed that critical services such as banking and government systems connect to the GIX which will not only ensure network resilience but also contribute to reducing internet costs over time.
Rev. Ing.Edmund Fianko expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged GISPA’s significant contributions to the industry. He welcomed the continued collaboration, particularly as the NCA looks to deepen engagement with stakeholders and expand digital access nationwide.

The delegation comprised Michael Komla Nfodzo, President of GISPA; Emmanuel Kwarteng and Peter David Kotoko, both Board Members; and Irene Darko, Administrative Manager at GISPA.
