The Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has cautioned people against misinformation and disinformation.
He revealed that his Ministry will soon present a legal document to Parliament to tackle misinformation and disinformation in the country.
The Communications Minister revealed this at a “Meet the Press Series” held in Accra on Wednesday.
“I will present a specialised legislation document on misinformation and disinformation before Parliament to be passed into law in its next meeting to create a clear legal framework for law enforcement”, the Ningo Prampram MP stressed.
“Notice is served, once the law is passed, we will clamp down on you if you are engaged in mis anddisinformation”
He explained that once the document is reviewed and considered by Parliament, it will be passed into law to address the issue effectively.
The Communications Minister also cautioned that no one will be spared when found guilty of spreading misinformation and disinformation.
He called for a collaborative approach to tackle the menace.
“We have a collective civic duty to be mindful in our communication.”
The MP said in a “spirit of full transparency”, the law is needed to avert the spread of mis and disinformation.
