Deputy Minister of works, housing and water Resources, Hon. Gizella Agbotui, has called for an all hands on deck approach in safeguarding Ghana’s water resources.
According to her water is a precious resource for all of hence the need for all to safeguard it.
The Deputy Minister was speaking at the 2025 World Water Day Celebration held in Accra on Friday (March 21) 2025 by the Ministry of Water Resources in collaboration with Ghana Water Company Limited and Water Resources Commission.
“Ghana’s policy response for conserving and safeguarding water for every one and every sector of the economy is that of shared responsibility”, Madam Agbotui stressed.
We should always bear in mind that each of us has a crucial role to play to safe our water bodies.
Just like a popular saying ‘a water source is formed by a millions of tiny drops. Let us endeavour to make our efforts count’
Touching on the theme for this years Celebration which is “Water Conservation: Let’s make it our Way of Life”, the Deputy Minister the theme should serve as a wake up call and inspiration for all to intensify their commitment and awareness in fighting the deterioration of our water bodies.
The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Mr.Adam Mutawakilu called for investment in innovative solutions, equitable distribution systems and sustainable infrastructure to guarantee access to clean and safe water.
According to him they were working to increase their capacity by aacquiring new water plants and upgrading existing facilities.
“We are also investing into modern technologies such as smart meters leak detection and pipe line rehabilitation to reduce water loss and improve efficiency ”, the MD assured.
Mr. Mutawakilu later expressed GWL’s commitment to collaborate with regulatory bodies and government agencies to enforce strict laws against illegal mining and industrial disposal of waste into water bodies.
On his part, Acting Executive Secretary of Water Resources Commission, Dr. Bob Alfa underscored the need for all to prioritize the protection of our water resources emphasizing that “the future of Ghana’s water resources depends on the action taken collectively”.
