Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said GJA’s claim of unprecedented attacks on Journalists under President Mahama is inaccurate.
According to him, the violence at the council of state elections in the Ashanti region where Journalists were attacked for which the GJA is laying claim can not be blamed on the government since the attacks were orchestrated by private individuals and not the state.
The GJA on Tuesday at a press conference described 5 attacks on Journalists under President Mahama as unprecedented but the Presidential Spokesperson has rubbished that assertion saying government has no hand in such attacks.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu made the statement on Wednesday when he addressed the media at the Jubilee House.
“If government sponsored the attacks on the Journalist then you have the right to say so but this was done by private individuals”, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized.
“…So don’t blame President Mahama for the attacks because these are private individuals”.
The Presidential Spokesperson reiterated President Mahama’s commitment to press freedom adding that “ President Mahama is very passionate and affable to the media so he will never support such any attack on Journalists.
He however indicated his readiness to meet with the GJA to iron out some of these issue.
