Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that Ghana will host an extraordinary meeting of heads of state and Council of Ministers of ECOWAS in Accra on 22-23April 2025 as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of ECOWAS.

He explained that the Anniversary launch would not be a mere ceremonial event but a strategic opportunity to celebrate the achievements chalked by ECOWAS over the past 5 decades.
He said the meeting will be attended by all Foreign Affairs and Finance Ministers of member of State to deliberate on the exit of Mali, Burkina-Faso and Niger ( the Sahelan states) from ECOWAS and prepare a comprehensive report for consideration of the heads of states .
It will take place immediately after the launch of the golden Jubilee celebration at the Accra International Conference Centre on April, 22.
It is expected to commence at 11:00 hours to set the tone for the year-long celebration among member states.
“The theme of the Celebration would he unveiled during the launch “, the Minister noted.
He emphasized that President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who chairs ECOWAS heads of Authority will attend including all member heads of state as well as representatives from Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali who exited the bloc.
“It is a great pride to our nation that ECOWAS has chosen Ghana to host the launch event for the ECOWAS@50”, the MP for North Tongu said.
“The honor done our nation is most befitting and well-deserved considering that Ghana has long emerged as the cradle of panafricanism, the pioneers of African unity and champions of regional integration” he added.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was established on 25th May 1975 to advance regional integration and policy harmonization.
It also to pool resources and ensure a co-operation for a collective and strategic combat against the myriad of challenges confronting the sub-region.
