This year’s forum focused on advancing the continent’s refining and downstream transformation, with particular emphasis on energy security, infrastructure investment, and the acceleration of cleaner fuel adoption.

Key discussions highlighted the urgency of enhancing regional cooperation and strengthening regulatory frameworks to support a just and inclusive energy transition. A notable moment was the presentation of Africa’s proven hydrocarbon reserves 119.8 billion barrels of crude oil and 632 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Significantly, the majority of these reserves are held by APPO member countries, reaffirming Africa’s strategic position in global energy and the importance of responsibly leveraging these resources for sustainable growth.
A major highlight was the introduction of the Africa Energy Bank, a strategic initiative by APPO and African Export Import Bank – Afreximbank aimed at financing energy projects across the entire value chain. The Bank will support upstream, midstream, and downstream operations while offering advisory, capital market, and risk management services, as well as asset liquefaction solutions. ARDA members are being encouraged to become equity shareholders in this groundbreaking institution.

ARDA Week 2025 reinforced the message that Africa’s energy future relies on strong partnerships, innovative financing mechanisms, and forward thinking policy frameworks. It served as a timely call to action galvanizing stakeholders around a shared commitment to building a resilient, integrated, and future-ready energy ecosystem for the continent.
